Teaching is commonly compared to acting on a stage because it requires the confidence and ability to present in front of groups of people as well as the flexibility to respond to the unexpected. While actors receive years of training, teachers are generally expected to pick up these essential performance skills “on the go”. In this interactive workshop, I will demonstrate how drama techniques, such as movement, voice and improvisation (which are commonly used to teach ESL students), can be adapted for training ESL teachers.
